August 30, 2009.
The Art-a-Fair is one of three premier art shows held each summer in Laguna, and the only one that exhibits not only national, but international artists. The Art-A-Fair is also known for the high quality of art and master crafts among its approximately 125 participants.
Jury day is Sunday, February 8. Artists who wish to be considered are invited to bring artwork for jurying either in person on that day between 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club located at 1085 Laguna Canyon Road. Mail submissions are due by Jan. 20. All mediums are available for jurying and artists may jury with more than one. Three original works of art are required in each medium entered; two-dimensional pieces must be framed, wired, and ready to hang.
Every art form is represented at the show, including oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, drawings, photography, digital art, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass and wood. Artists who have hand-delivered their work on Jury Day receive their scores and notification of acceptance or declination at pick up between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. that same day.
Nestled in a beautiful garden setting in Laguna Canyon, the Art-A-Fair also features live entertainment, fine food, demonstrations and workshops. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant and patrons look forward to meeting the artist exhibitors, either casually in their booths or at demonstrations or lectures. The 2007 festival saw the introduction of a Venetian theme which continued this year, and will enhanced further next summer when, once again, over 60,000 visitors are expected.
Laguna Beach is known for its rich history of art and artists dating back to the early 1900’s, when famed California plein air painter William Wendt opened the first gallery. Performing arts have also been prominent in Laguna and the well-respected Laguna Playhouse has been presenting productions since 1920.
Thousands of visitors from around the globe annually flock to Laguna to enjoy this artistic atmosphere, as well as to enjoy the beautiful beaches, quaint village atmosphere, galleries and fine restaurants.
