According to watercolorist Emilee Reed, there are two things an artist can always use: more light, and more studio space. The married mother of two grown sons has always created her art “wherever she could”… by the living room window, or at the dining room table. As her boys grew, so did her studio space. That space now occupies a dedicated room in the Orange County home she shares with husband Don.
A familiar green tree frog shares her digs as well – the very same presence found “hiding in plain sight” in every Emilee Reed painting. Her works begin with a carefully crafted drawing that she transfers to a pristine watercolor surface. Emilee soaks, stretches, and dries her own papers prior to painting. She chooses to “work wet”, mixing her colors on the painting surface. The result, according to Emilee, “can be magic… or mud.” Judging by the works displayed in her studio, her results are pure magic.
One reason Emilee is regarded as a “client favorite” is because she offers “client favorites” – custom commissioned works that incorporate a client’s favorite color, activity, place, animal, game and holiday in a single creative painting. And the results speak for themselves… works coming out of this artist’s studio keep Emilee Reed among Art-A-Fair’s favorites.
