“When I am painting, I am in an atmosphere of completeness – total joy. There is my music in the background prompting a rhythm in my brush or knife strokes, while sun rays pop through the skylight, surrounding me like a warming hug. The Creator moves my hand around the canvas, orchestrating the entire production. This is my heaven.”
Sheryl’s earliest recollection of being awestruck by nature and all of God’s wonders was at age 11 while traveling by car from her home in Delaware to Washington state, experiencing an array of mesmerizing sunsets. After many years of being stirred by the beauty in nature, Sheryl was lead to return to college to obtain an art degree while living in Texas. However, it wasn’t until she moved to Southern California in 1997 and began taking watercolor classes from some of Laguna Beach’s finest watercolorists, that painting and art became a significant part of every day.
Sheryl loved painting tropical flowers and fish, seascapes with sunsets, still life, doors – just about anything. Traveling became a significant part of Sheryl’s evolvement, taking workshops in France, Mexico, Taos, Sedona and numerous cities in California. Through these workshops Sheryl became involved with plein air painting.
However, after spending seven years painting realism in watercolors, Sheryl began expressing herself through abstraction in acrylics. “It’s been four years now that I’ve been creating abstracts and I’m having more fun than ever expressing what comes from the heart and soul than what is merely seen with my eyes.”
Sheryl maintains membership in several California art associations, donates her work for a number of local charities and is represented by the Cove Gallery in Laguna Beach.
