Susan Leonhard was born in Burbank, California in 1960 and grew up in the rural foothills of nearby Shadow Hills. She comes from a family of artists and began oil painting at age 10 and has more than 40 years of experience. Susan describes herself as a self-taught artist with the benefit of creative genes.
Susan exhibits in the Artist Eye Gallery, Laguna Beach; The Gray Matter Museum, Costa Mesa, Artisan Gallery in Mission Viejo and Bellissima Art & Framing in Costa Mesa. She also has a permanent exhibit in the hospital where she was born, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, California. She has enjoyed demonstrating her painting skills at private corporate events at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach & Anaheim Hilton. Susan’s paintings have been featured in publications such as, “The Art Lover’s Cookbook,” “Glady” magazine, “The Creative Way” and “LA Travel” magazine. Susan works with charities, including Art & Creativity For Healing, the MS Society and The Children’s Diabetes Foundation.
In 2014, Susan began her contemporary series of paintings entitled “Underwater & Beyond” in which she depicts the surreal beauty of the underwater, focusing on the reflective light and transparency of the water. This series is vibrant, yet serene and has been one of her most challenging yet rewarding accomplisments.
Susan resides in Laguna Hills and participates yearly at local art festivals, including; the Balboa Artwalk, Irvine Studio Arts, Beverly Hills Affaire In The Gardens and Art-A-Fair exhibits.
