Shannon Windsor was born in Colorado and raised in Southern California. Since childhood she had a passion for art – drawing, painting and creating. She also loved looking at and pondering photographs. At the age of nine, Shannon began taking oil painting lessons followed by her first photography class.
When her father brought home a Minolta SRT-101, Shannon picked it up every chance she could. In high school she practiced black and white photography, learned darkroom processing and met a friend who introduced her to the work of Ansel Adams. From that moment, Shannon fell in love with landscape and nature photography. She continued to study photography in college, but was unfortunately convinced that it would not be a “practical” career.
Shannon earned a degree in finance instead. Over the past twenty-six years she has worked primarily as a financial analysis manager for a global supply chain company and in her current role as the controller for an architectural concrete contractor. Despite work, Shannon has never put the camera down. She and her family spend every available opportunity traveling and exploring, allowing her to do the photography she always wanted.
Shannon recently took her photography to a new level. Inspired by her high school friend’s success as a fine art photographer and ongoing encouragement from her family, Shannon began to show her images at the Orange County Fair and Costa Mesa ArtVenture. Shannon wants to continue to share the beauty, awe and peace of the places and things she has been so fortunate to see. Shannon hopes that her images will draw in others and give them a sense / spirit of place through her artistic perspective.
