I  usually begin by pouring 3 to 4 colors allowing them to mingle resulting in additional colors.  I check out the results as I have begun without a subject in mind.  I allow the paint to guide me and use my imagination to choose a theme and mood.  My paintings are rarely planned but seem to end up representing nature.  If There are no images, I pour more paint.  I don’t worry about the outcome I just continue painting doing whatever works to see what evolves.  Eventually it becomes a puzzle to pull together. I’ll use watercolor, acrylic, collage, charcoal, pastel and positive/negative painting to make it work!  The results are intuitive abstraction with some subject matter, lots of layers, shapes, texture, color, patterns and line.
