The Artist Elinor Sethman
Elinor Sethman began her career at San Diego State University with a focus on fashion illustration. Years later, after raising four beautiful children, her creative needs were met by returning to painting where the use of watercolor with colored pencil best executed her visions. Design, pattern, and fine detail are never found lacking in these exciting works. At present, her attention ranges from highly successful miniatures to much larger pieces. No matter what the size of her paintings, the attention to detail is always flawlessly executed.
In her search for new ideas, the Kaleidoscope has captured Elinor’s heart. The color, the broken spaces, and the challenges that lead the eye through venues not usually seen in this manner continue to inspire and excite this artist. Among the numerous awards won in Juried Shows for her standard sized paintings, are six Best of Shows and a purchase award. Her painting, “A Sunny Good Morning”, won an Award of Merit in the Watercolor Magic Magazines 1997 Water Media Showcase, a National Juried Competition. She won Second in Show (The Grumbacher Award) in the 65th Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art Miniatures in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2004 Elinor had a painting displayed in the Third World Wide Miniature Exhibition of Fine Arts in Miniature taking place at The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. In November 2005 Elinor was awarded first place in the 72nd Annual MPSGS International Exhibition of Fine Arts Miniatures.
Elinor’s paintings are in private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. She makes her home in Corona, California with her husband Arvin.
