About Loretta Alvarado

Loretta has been sewing for over 25 years. She made her first quilt for a gift in 1978 and has been quilting ever since. Most of her early quilts are traditional patterns made from cotton fabrics.

Later quilts are more abstract and concentrate primarily on color and texture rather than pattern. One of her more recent works is a wearable art piece combining a traditional quilt pattern with a contemporary design.

Through her self taught efforts, she continually experiments with new techniques to incorporate the myriad of fabrics overflowing her studio.

Although trained as an engineer, she has always had a love of sewing. That technical background is apparent in her precision and attention to detail.

Many of her quilts and wearable art pieces incorporate the use of a computer in the design process.
